Understanding Golf Balls
There are two chief kinds of balls - spin and distance. Players choose either depending on their preference. The spin ball is there to provide ‘workability’ over a long distance. They are usually of three-piece construction. There is a central core – mostly liquid in the highest spin balls – that is bounded by rubber windings. The windings are usually covered with a thin and soft material called urethane. These balls are known to spin more. This makes it easier to draw and they hold the green. Their feel is softer. But they do not travel as far as distance balls. Many professionals prefer these spin balls. They are interested in the workability because they already know how to gain distance.
The distance balls are mostly covered with a firm material called Surlyn. They are generally two-piece having a solid core. The inside of these balls are made of a firm synthetic material. The firmness both inside and outside help the ball to travel farther. It also makes it very durable. But they do not spin much which results in les control. The distance balls are used mostly by used by beginners and novice players who do not have the ability to make the golf ball work like a professional.
