PGA Tour Negotiates Barclays Stay In Westchester

The PGA Tour is under negotiations whether The Barclays will at all be played at Westchester Country Club in New York. Rumors have been doing rounds that the 2008 edition would be held at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus. The Barclays is the first limb of the FedEx Cup playoffs. If this tournament makes a shift, then it would be one of the biggest golf event to be held in New Jersey since the 2005 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield.

The Barclays had been played at Westchester since 1967. It was already planned to move to Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City in 2009. in 2006, Westchester had agreed that it will hold this tournament three of the next six years, inclusive of 2007 and 2008, with an alternative for a fourth.

The event has a massive budget of $7 million. Tiger Woods missed the qualifiers-only tournament last year. It was won by Steve Stricker. Tiger Woods won the two concluding legs of the four-event playoff to take over the inaugural FedEx Cup. The option of Ridgewood was considered to address the falling attendance at Westchester along with a divided club membership.
