Peter Lawrie Achieves His First European Tour Victory

Peter Lawrie was  overwhelmed with joy and relief as he achieved his first European Tour victory. He was left totally speechless with joy. The closest he had come to a win before was losing a play-off for the same event to Kenneth Ferrie of England around five years ago. He collected the rookie award that season. That year he was 56th on the money list. This win has catapulted him to 12th, straight away in front of Clarke and Open champion Padraig Harrington. He was so happy that he could not express his happiness in words.

Graeme McDowell features fifth and McGrane is seventh. This makes five Irish players in the top 14. England can claim only one in third-placed Lee Westwood. There are no Scottish or Welsh players in that high profile list. This win came just two weeks after his room-mate Damien McGrane managed to break his Tour duck at the 169th. Lawrie was successful in his 175th attempt. However both the wins were completely different. McGrane won in China by around nine - five strokes. On the other hand Lawrie went through an astonishing rollercoaster ride before he could claim the trophy and the winner’s cheque worth more than £262,000.
