Golf handicaps
There are basically three kinds of handicaps in golf. Most golfers have at least on of the handicaps.
The most common handicap is the honest handicap. The golfer having an honest handicap is careful about keeping precise scores, following the accepted rules of golf and takes into account all rounds played when he is applying the handicap formula.
The golfer who has a sandbagger handicap goes out of his way to ensure that that his “official” handicap is higher than what it actually should be. He does it with the intention of competing in Net Score competitions, which obviously has prizes as incentive.
The third kind is called a Hollywood handicap. Here the golfer takes the game seriously and tries his best to improve. He is keen to be recognized as a great player among his peers.
For computing a handicap using the standard USGA formula, you would first need to convert the Gross Score to Adjusted Gross Score (AGS). The AGS is either equal to or lower than the gross score after an adjustment is made to reduce the exceptionally high hole scores.
