Felipe Aguilar Holds His Cool
Felipe Aguilar believed that his first European Tour victory at the Indonesia Open would have “life-changing” connotation on the remainder of his career. The 33-year-old Chilean golfer had won more than 30 events in his homeland but did not have the same luck in the international scenario. He had been unsuccessful in the European Tour in 2006, which concluded in him not being able even to retain his card. But on the Challenge Tour in 2007, he had won twice and regained his lost fame.
Though he did not taste success initially, Aguilar held his nerve in the rounds at the Cengkareng Golf Club and on the final hole today to defeat Jeev Milkha Singh by one stroke and win USD200,000. He had held his nervousness and managed a good tee-shot before chipping to within five feet of the pin and finally make a birdie putt. Though Jeev Milkha Singh had hit into the rough from his drive he managed to recover as he struck the ball for his par putt. But the ball lipped out to hand and handed the victory to Aguilar. Aguilar finished with a two-under-par 68 for 18 under on the whole. Singh was a stroke behind after carding a three under 67.
