In his first visit Down Under in more than a decade, Tiger Woods put on a dominant show. He escaped from a three-way tie to secure the lead. He did so with three fine birdies on opening six holes of his, and steadily took control. Woods has triumphed 82 times in 13 countries across the world at various official tournaments. Significantly, this was his first ever victory in Australia.

With a stiff breeze blowing around, he ripped a stunning 3-wood to the par-5 opening hole. The crowd erupted in anticipation when it landed just near the hole before rolling 30 ft away for a birdie. He ensured his victory over Greg Chalmers with a two-shot victory.

Woods said. “I am thankful to have a opportunity to play in front of great people and also being able to put together some good rounds.” The only thing, which flustered him a bit was a photographer close to him on the 13th, trying to shoot two frames just in the middle of his swing.

The slight disturbance caused his lone bogey, allowing Chalmers to remain in the hunt. However, his hopes ended on the 15th. Woods added, “You had to make some of those birdies early. I was able to do that. In fact, I managed to keep it going most of the day.”

Jason Dufner tied for third spot at 10-under 278 along with Frenchman Francois Delamontagne.
