The 2008 US Open golf tournament is being held from June 12 to June 15. We look back at the history of the US Open Championship. The first edition of the Championship was held in October 4, 1895 by the United States Golf Association. It was staged on Newport (R.I.) Golf and Country Club’s nine-hole course. (more…)

It is extremely important for you to stick to golf-specific exercise program if you want to perform well and also avoid injuries. After all it is you who is playing the game and not your equipment. Spain’s Pablo Martin’s win in the Portuguese Open at Oitavos Dunes last year won him the title of being the first amateur ever to be victorious in an event on the circuit. Now he aims to imitate Aaron Baddeley at the Australian Open in 1999 and 2000 by following a win as an amateur with a triumphant defence as a professional. Martin has always been very focused. The Copperhead Course at the Westin Innisbrook Resort in Tampa Florida is considered to be one of the best golf courses on the PGA Tour. It is not the classic Florida Resort Course though. It has tree-lined fairways and there are many elevation changes that gives it a conventional look. The course is a challenging one. Golfers would require shaping the ball both ways off the tee with a range of clubs. (more…)

David Howell returns to action on the European Tour after a three-week break at the Maybank Malaysian Open. After a dreadful 2007 season where the 32-year-old came crashing down from a career-high third on the European Tour Order in 2006 to 142nd, he managed to retain seventh-place at the Qatar Masters. England’s Nick Dougherty stayed at the top of the leaderboard at the Maybank Malaysian Open after he opened the tournament with a 10-under-par 62 at the Kota Permai Golf and Country Club. Dougherty managed to maintain a two-stroke advantage over Simon Dyson and Australian Marcus Fraser. Both the players carded eight-under 64s in the morning.

Adam Scott divulged that his record score in the final round of Commercial bank Qatar Masters was his best ever last-round performance in his overall career. He fired a course record of 11 under par 61 to emerge victorious at the Qatar Masters at the Doha Golf Club. (more…)
